What is special about the number 8,549,176,320?

The NYT asks and answers this question in a charming obituary for Martin Gardner, who died on the 22nd of this month at age 95.

I enjoyed his puzzles when I was a kid and his Annotated Alice is a lot of fun.

Don't you hate it when you read an obituary for someone when you didn't realize they were still alive?

How embarrassing.
